Vietnam Trip Cost for 2 People: Total Budget for Couples (2026)

What a Vietnam trip really costs for two: private land tour prices for 7, 10 and 14 days, return flights from the US and UK, e-visa, insurance, tips and daily spending.

Vietnam Trip Cost for 2 People: Total Budget for Couples (2026)

Most Vietnam price guides quote a figure per person per day, which is not what a couple actually pays. This guide adds everything up for two people: the private land tour, return flights, the e-visa, insurance, tips and spending money.

A comfortable 10-day private trip for two, with four-star hotels, a private car and guide, a Halong Bay cruise and two domestic flights, costs about $2,900–3,700 for the couple on the ground. Add return flights from the US or UK and your own spending, and the total for two usually lands between $5,000 and $8,000.

Key facts for couples: A private tour for two costs about $125–185 per person per day at four-star level, so roughly $250–370 per day for the couple. A 7-day northern route (Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Halong) runs about $1,760–2,300 for two at four-star level, and a 10-day Hanoi-to-Mekong route about $2,900–3,700. Return economy flights are the second-biggest cost: about $1,600–2,400 for two from the US West Coast or £1,200–1,500 for two from London. Two is the standard pricing basis in Vietnam, so couples pay no single supplement.

Why two people is the standard price in Vietnam

Hotels, cruises and tour operators in Vietnam price a double or twin room for two as the default. A couple therefore pays the "normal" rate: one room, one cabin, one car and one guide shared between two.

So couples pay no single supplement. A solo traveller covers a whole room plus the full car and guide alone, which pushes the daily price to about $220–280; a couple pays about $125–185 each.

The car and guide are the big fixed cost. A sedan with driver runs about $50–75 a day and a licensed English-speaking guide another $50–75, so two people split roughly $100–150 a day between them. A family of four splits the same bill four ways, which is why per-person prices fall as the group grows.

Our published tour prices use this two-guest basis, so the "from" price on any of our tour pages is the per-person price for a couple.

The full trip budget for two, including flights

The land tour is usually 50–60% of what a couple spends. Here is a worked example for the most popular option: a 10-day private trip at four-star level.

Travel insurance$100–200About $50–100 each, bought before you leave home

Total for 2about $5,050–7,350From the East Coast, add about $600–800

Flights from your home country

  • United States: airline "from" fares for economy returns are about $800–1,200 per person from the West Coast and Texas, and about $1,100–1,600 from the East Coast, usually with one stop.
  • United Kingdom: London to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City returns are about £600–750 per person, so roughly £1,200–1,500 for two.
  • Australia: see our Vietnam travel cost from Australia guide, which prices flights and daily spending in AUD.

Fares change daily and rise sharply around Christmas, school holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), so check live fares for your own dates before you fix a budget.

Daily spending money for a couple

On a private tour, lunches on sightseeing days, transport and entrance fees are already paid. What you still spend as a couple:

  • Dinners: $20–40 for two at a good local restaurant; $90–240 for two at fine-dining places in Hanoi or Saigon.
  • Tips: about $10–15 a day for the guide and $5–8 a day for the driver, per couple, not per person.
  • Drinks: beer is about $1.50–3 a can; a bottle of wine in a restaurant is about $25–60.

Most couples land between $40 and $100 a day for the two of them. Small vendors and street food are easiest with cash; our guide to paying in Vietnam covers cards and QR payments.

Private tour or independent travel for a couple?

If you plan everything yourselves and stay in the same four-star hotels, the main saving is the private car and guide: about $100–150 a day for the two of you on sightseeing days. In return you handle transfers, ticket queues, boat bookings and route timing yourselves.

Many couples mix the two: guided days in Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Hue, then free days in Hoi An or on the beach with transfers only. Skipping the guide on a free day saves about $60–80. Our comparison of private vs group tours in Vietnam goes into more detail.

If the budget is tight, cut guided days before you cut hotel quality. A central hotel in Hanoi saves taxi time every evening; a guide on a beach afternoon in Hoi An adds very little.

Honeymoon and anniversary upgrades: what they add

Couples often keep most of the trip at four-star level and spend on one or two highlights. Typical extras, for two people:

  • Five-star Halong Bay cruise instead of four-star: a 2-day, 1-night cruise costs about $140–180 per person at four-star level and $180–320 at five-star, so the upgrade adds up to about $350 for the couple. Our 3-day, 2-night Halong guide shows what a longer cruise adds.
  • Beach resort finish: a five-star resort in Hoi An or Phu Quoc runs about $180–450+ per room per night, against $75–145 for a four-star boutique hotel.
  • One special dinner: about $90–240 for two at a top restaurant in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

Two well-chosen upgrades usually cost less than switching the whole trip to five-star.

When a couple pays more or less

  • Shoulder season is cheaper. April–May and September–October hotel and cruise rates are often 15–25% below the December–February peak.
  • Tet is more expensive. Around Lunar New Year (late January or February), car, guide and service rates rise about 20–35%.
  • Over Christmas and New Year, many four- and five-star hotels and cruises add a compulsory gala dinner on 24 and 31 December, about $50–150 per person.
  • Staying two or three nights per stop, rather than one, cuts transfer days and keeps both the price and the pace down.

Budget checklist for two

  • Decide the hotel level first; it moves the total more than any other choice.
  • Ask for a quote for two sharing one room, with hotel names, not "or similar".
  • Check which days are guided, which are transfer-only and which are free.
  • Confirm that domestic flights, the cruise and entrance fees are inside the price.
  • Price international flights for your own dates before setting the total.
  • Apply for the e-visa only on the official government portal.
  • Budget $40–100 a day for the two of you for dinners, drinks and tips.
  • Avoid Tet and the Christmas–New Year week if you want the lowest price.

How a private trip for two is priced with us

We price every private trip for the actual number of travellers, dates and hotels, so a couple receives a quote built for two, not a group rate divided up. The quote lists each hotel by name, the vehicle, guided days and what is not included, so you can compare it line by line with the ranges above. Send your dates and preferred hotel level through our trip planning form and we will reply with a day-by-day proposal.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 10-day Vietnam trip cost for 2 people?

A 10-day private trip for two at four-star level costs about $2,900–3,700 for the couple on the ground, including car, guide, hotels, a Halong Bay cruise and two domestic flights. With return flights from the US, e-visas, insurance and spending money, the total is usually about $5,050–7,350 for two from the US West Coast.

How much does a 7-day Vietnam tour cost for a couple?

A 7-day private route through Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay costs about $1,300–1,600 for two at three-star level, $1,760–2,300 at four-star level and $2,900–4,200 at five-star level, before international flights.

Do couples pay a single supplement in Vietnam?

No. Hotels, cruises and private tours in Vietnam are priced for two people sharing a room, so a couple pays the standard rate. Solo travellers pay more because they cover a whole room, car and guide alone.

How much spending money does a couple need per day in Vietnam?

On a private tour where lunches, transport and entrance fees are already paid, most couples spend about $40–100 a day for the two of them on dinners, drinks and tips.

Is a private tour much more expensive than travelling independently for two?

With the same hotels, the main difference is the private car and guide: about $100–150 a day for the couple on guided days. Many couples keep guides for Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Hue and use transfers only on free days to lower the cost.
