Mekong Delta Tours

Floating markets at dawn, emerald rice paddies, and a labyrinth of palm-lined canals — the Mekong Delta is the watery heart of southern Vietnam.

The Mekong Delta is Vietnam's great water world — a vast, fertile labyrinth of rivers, canals, and islands where life moves at the pace of the brown water flowing toward the South China Sea. This is the nation's rice bowl, producing over half of Vietnam's rice, and the source of its most abundant tropical fruits, from dragon fruit to rambutan.

A boat trip through the Delta's floating markets is the quintessential experience. At Cai Rang, the largest floating market in the Mekong, hundreds of boats converge at dawn, their bow poles displaying the goods for sale — watermelons, pineapples, cabbages — in a tradition that has endured for generations. Glide through narrow canals shaded by water coconut palms, sample fresh coconut candy at a family workshop, and listen to traditional don ca tai tu music performed by locals on a riverside veranda.

Each Delta province offers its own character: Ben Tre with its coconut groves, Tra Vinh with its Khmer pagodas, Dong Thap with its lotus fields stretching to the horizon. For the adventurous, the Delta is the gateway to Phu Quoc Island and the Cambodian border. Whether you're cycling through village paths, staying overnight in a riverside homestay, or feasting on elephant-ear fish and clay-pot caramelized pork, the Mekong Delta is Vietnam at its most authentic and unhurried.
