Hoi An wears its history on every ochre-colored wall of its UNESCO-listed Ancient Town. Once a bustling international trading port where Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, and Portuguese merchants converged, the town preserves a remarkably intact ensemble of over 800 historic buildings spanning several centuries.

Cross the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge, built in the 1590s, and wander into the Assembly Halls built by Chinese merchants — each more ornate than the last, with curling dragon motifs and clouds of incense. But Hoi An is far more than its postcard-perfect Old Town. The renowned tailors can whip up a bespoke suit or ao dai in 24 hours. Just outside town, the beaches of An Bang and Cua Dai offer golden sands and gentle waves. A short bicycle ride through emerald rice paddies brings you to Tra Que Vegetable Village, where you can join a cooking class using herbs you've just picked. And no visit is complete without sampling cao lau — the legendary noodle dish found only in Hoi An.
