Hành trình khám phá vùng non nước hùng vĩ nhất Đông Bắc
Hanoi – Ba Be Lake – Bac Kan – Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Nguom Ngao Cave – Khuoi Ky Stone Village – Hanoi
Northeast road trip 4D3N: boat trip on Ba Be Lake, Tay ethnic homestay, majestic Ban Gioc Waterfall, enchanting Nguom Ngao Cave. A pristine nature journey for lovers of the northern mountains.
There is a northeastern region that few travelers know about — where layered limestone mountains embrace Vietnam's largest natural lake, where a majestic waterfall plunges from 30 meters high right on the Vietnam-China border, where Tay ethnic villages nestle against mountain slopes with hundred-year-old stone houses. This is the Ba Be – Ban Gioc 4-day, 3-night journey — one of the most beautiful and pristine road trips in the North.
Unlike Ha Giang — where treacherous passes test your courage, or Sapa — where tourism has developed bustlingly, the Northeast offers a different rhythm: slower, deeper, and more authentic. This journey is for those who have already visited Ha Long, Ninh Binh, Sapa and want to discover a different Vietnam — pristine, less touristy, and stunningly beautiful.
Ba Be Lake is Vietnam's largest natural freshwater lake, located at an altitude of 150m above sea level, surrounded by layered limestone mountains and the primeval forest of Ba Be National Park. Sitting on a boat on the mirror-like lake surface, you will see mountains reflected in the emerald water, occasionally monkeys jumping on the cliffs, birds singing from the deep forest. The lake was formed over 200 million years ago after a major earthquake — legend says the lake is the remnant of a battle between a dragon and an evil spirit.
You will spend the night at a Tay homestay in Pac Ngoi village — cozy wooden stilt houses by the lake. In the evening, sit by the fire, listen to the host's stories, enjoy corn wine and rustic dishes like grilled lake fish, stir-fried wild vegetables, hill chicken — a local living experience as authentic as it gets.
From Ba Be, the journey continues to Cao Bang — the northeastern frontier land, where Ban Gioc Waterfall stands majestically on the Vietnam-China border. This is the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia and one of the most beautiful in the world. The white water cascades from a height of 30m, divided into multiple tiers, creating a giant water curtain amidst the majestic mountains. In the rainy season (June-September), the waterfall is fierce and powerful; in the dry season (October-May), it is gentler but still breathtakingly beautiful.
Right next to the waterfall is Nguom Ngao Cave — a limestone cave nearly 2km long with fantastic stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, and strange natural formations. And not to be missed is Khuoi Ky Stone Village — a Tay village with houses built entirely of stone, hundreds of years old, nestled against towering limestone mountains.

Ba Be Lake Boat Trip – Puong Cave – Dau Dang Waterfall – Cao Bang
The boat takes you through Puong Cave — a natural cave over 300m long through the mountain. The boat glides slowly in the dark, light from both ends creating mystical streaks on the water. On the cave ceiling, thousands of bats hang sleeping — a sight both eerie and fascinating. This is one of the most unique experiences of the journey.
