Overview
This four-day, three-night route leaves Hanoi by private car and heads northeast to Ba Be Lake, then continues to Cao Bằng for the waterfall and cave country near the border. You sleep one night at a homestay or eco lodge beside the lake and two nights in a Cao Bằng hotel. The pace is steady rather than rushed, with the longer drives broken by rest stops.

Pick-up and drop-off at Nội Bài airport are included only when they are written into your confirmation; otherwise the day starts and ends at a hotel in central Hanoi. The route covers long inter-provincial legs, so the transfer days are mostly spent in the car.
