Ninh Bình is about 90 minutes south of Hanoi. The Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex here is Vietnam's only UNESCO Mixed Natural and Cultural World Heritage Site.
This full-day trip combines three stops. You visit the temples at Hoa Lư, the capital of Vietnam in the 10th century under the Đinh and Early Lê dynasties. You take a hand-rowed sampan through the cave passages of Tràng An or Tam Cốc. Then you climb the 500 stone steps of Hang Múa for a view over the Tam Cốc valley and its rice fields.
