History at the Actual Sites
The day is built around three places. At Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River, which marked the 17th Parallel, your guide explains how Vietnam was divided from 1954 to 1975.
The Vinh Moc Tunnels show how a whole village lived underground during the bombing. An English- or Vietnamese-speaking guide ties each stop to its history.
It is a full day with a lot of road time between Hue and Quang Tri. It suits travellers who put history first, not a relaxed sightseeing day.
Main Stops
Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River
You walk onto the bridge over the Ben Hai River, the line between North and South Vietnam from 1954 to 1975.
Vinh Moc Tunnels
A network of tunnels on three levels, dug into the red earth near the coast. Families lived here during the war, and you walk through the passages with your guide.
Lunch in Quang Tri
A local lunch is included before the drive back to Hue.
