Overview

Ha Giang 4-day 3-night private car tour — a safe, comfortable journey exploring Dong Van Stone Plateau, Ma Pi Leng Pass, Nho Que River, and H'Mong culture. From $262/person.

Ha Giang by Private Car — Complete Emotion, Safe Every Mile

Ha Giang is not only for motorbike adventurers. With Vibe Vietnam Tours' private car 4 days 3 nights tour, you still conquer the legendary stone road — Quan Ba Heaven Gate, Dong Van Plateau, Ma Pi Leng Pass, Nho Que River — but in a private, air-conditioned space with a local driver who knows every curve.

This is the ideal choice for families with young children, elderly travelers, couples seeking privacy, or anyone who wants to enjoy Ha Giang without worrying about sun, wind, dust, or traffic safety. Just sit in the car, open the window, and let the majestic mountain scenery pass by — every turn is a once-in-a-lifetime photo.

Why Choose a Private Car Instead of a Motorbike?

We have taken hundreds of international guests to Ha Giang and understand that not everyone is suited for 4 days on the back of a motorbike. Private car tours solve all concerns: absolute safety on mountain passes, air conditioning when it's hot, photo stops wherever you like, and most importantly — the driver is a Ha Giang local, knowing exactly the best Instagram spots, the best restaurants, and the coziest homestays.

Journey Highlights

  • Quan Ba Heaven Gate & Fairy Twin Mountains — iconic check-in spot, panoramic view of Tam Son Valley from above
  • H'Mong King's Palace (Vuong Family Mansion) — architecture blending H'Mong, Chinese, and French styles on the stone plateau, with stories of a powerful historical era
  • Lung Cu Flagpole — the sacred northernmost point of the country, where you stand on Dragon Mountain overlooking the Chinese border
  • Ma Pi Leng Pass — one of Vietnam's Four Great Passes, a road winding along sheer cliffs above the emerald Nho Que River
  • Boat ride on Nho Que River & Tu San Canyon — experience navigating through Southeast Asia's deepest canyon, offering a completely different perspective of Ha Giang
  • Du Gia — a hidden gem — a peaceful valley with terraced fields, crystal streams, and cozy homestays, where you truly "slow down" after 3 days of conquering passes

Detailed Itinerary

1

Day 1

Ha Giang → Quan Ba → Yen Minh → Dong Van (150 km)

08:00: Good morning Ha Giang
Private car and guide pick you up at your hotel or meeting point in Ha Giang city center. After a hot coffee and a quick briefing about the 4-day itinerary, weather, and safety tips, we set off.
09:30: Quan Ba Heaven Gate & Fairy Twin Mountains
First stop is Quan Ba Heaven Gate — the first moment you feel the grandeur of the stone plateau. From here, gaze down at Tam Son Valley with the Fairy Twin Mountains standing out amid green terraced fields. One of the most beautiful photo backgrounds in Ha Giang.
12:30: Lunch in Yen Minh
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Yen Minh. You'll enjoy highland specialties such as grilled pork, stir-fried wild vegetables, bamboo sticky rice, and black chicken soup — flavors only found in Ha Giang.
14:30: Tham Ma Slope & Dong Van Stone Plateau
Continue the journey through Tham Ma Slope — a famous winding road with nine curves, where local drivers show their skill. As you ascend, the scenery becomes more breathtaking. You officially enter the Dong Van Stone Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark — a unique natural heritage.
17:00: Dong Van in the afternoon
Arrive in Dong Van town, check into hotel/guesthouse. Free evening to explore Dong Van Old Town with its hundred-year-old rammed-earth houses, enjoy corn wine, thang den, and mingle with locals.
Lunch • Dinner Hotel/guesthouse in Dong Van town

Day 2

Dong Van → H'Mong King's Palace → Lung Cu → Ma Pi Leng → Meo Vac (120 km)

07:30: Highland breakfast
Wake up in the cool air of the stone plateau, enjoy a hot breakfast and prepare for a day packed with iconic destinations.
08:30: H'Mong King's Palace (Vuong Family Mansion)
The car takes you to Sa Phin, visit the mansion of Vuong Chinh Duc — the most powerful "H'Mong King" of the plateau in the 20th century. The story of how he built his empire from opium, the architecture blending three cultures H'Mong – Chinese – French, and the secrets in each room will captivate you. This is not just a sightseeing spot — it's a living chapter of the border region's history.
11:00: Lung Cu Flagpole — Sacred Northernmost Point
Stand on Dragon Mountain at 1,470m altitude, where the red flag with yellow star flies, and gaze into Chinese territory. The feeling of standing at the northernmost point of the country, amidst mountain wind and clouds, is truly indescribable. Climb 839 steps to the top — but the view is worth every step.
14:00: Ma Pi Leng Pass — One of the Four Great Passes
This is the moment the entire 4-day journey builds up to. The car slowly climbs the legendary pass — one of Vietnam's Four Great Passes. To the right is a sheer cliff, to the left a deep abyss with the emerald Nho Que River winding below. You'll have at least 2-3 stops for photos and to enjoy the scenery many call "the most beautiful in Vietnam".
17:00: Meo Vac at dusk
Arrive in Meo Vac, check in and relax. Evening free to explore the small town nestled among mountains, enjoy black chicken hotpot or famous Meo Vac dried beef.
Breakfast • Lunch • Dinner Hotel/guesthouse in Meo Vac
3

Day 3

Meo Vac → Boat on Nho Que River → Mau Due → Du Gia (100 km)

07:30: Breakfast by Nho Que River
The third day starts more gently. After breakfast, you have an optional experience that many guests rate as the unexpected highlight of the tour.
08:30: Boat on Nho Que River & Tu San Canyon (optional)
Take a motorboat, navigate through Tu San Canyon — the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia with cliffs over 700m high on both sides. Look up and you see Ma Pi Leng Pass you crossed yesterday; now you're at the bottom of the abyss, a completely different perspective. The river water is emerald and surprisingly peaceful amid the majestic rock. This is an experience we highly recommend adding to your journey — it will change how you see Ha Giang forever.
11:30: Mau Due road
The car continues through Mau Due — one of the least touristed roads but stunningly beautiful. Small villages cling to mountain slopes, children wave, terraced fields are golden in harvest or green in rainy season — depending on when you go.
15:00: Du Gia — Hidden Gem of Ha Giang
Arriving in Du Gia, you'll understand why we always reserve a day for this valley. Not as bustling as Dong Van, not as majestic as Ma Pi Leng — Du Gia is peaceful, rustic with terraced fields, clear streams, and simple wooden stilt houses. Check into homestay and freely explore the village, bathe in the stream, or simply sit on the porch watching sunset over the valley.
Breakfast • Lunch • Dinner Homestay/guesthouse in Du Gia
4

Day 4

Du Gia → Village → Ha Giang City (70 km)

07:30: Last breakfast in the valley
Wake up to the sound of roosters and morning mist covering Du Gia valley. The last breakfast of the journey — enjoy it slowly because you'll have to say goodbye soon.
08:30: Explore villages in the morning
The final morning is for wandering through villages around Du Gia. Meet the Dao, Tay, H'Mong people, listen to their stories, and observe daily life in the highlands. This is not a tourist attraction — it's real life, and you are a welcome guest.
11:00: Return to Ha Giang
The car takes you back to Ha Giang city via quiet small roads. Stop for lunch along the way.
14:00: Goodbye Ha Giang
Arrive in Ha Giang City. End of 4-day journey. You can stay an extra night in Ha Giang if you wish (we have hotel room options), or catch a bus back to Hanoi in the afternoon. See you on another journey with Vibe Vietnam Tours!
